The Froggymouth comes in three sizes: S, M and L.

The rule: horizontally, the Froggymouth should be smaller than the size of the patient's mouth so as not to stretch the corners of the lips .

No. It's important to maintain a horizontal lingual plane throughout wearing the Froggymouth.

Wearing it in front of a book or tablet would cause the head bowed, leading to the patient drooling, thereby delaying the need to swallow.

Treatment ends when the tongue position is corrected .

The practitioner must ask himself whether his rehabilitation has created an automatism of the new praxis in the patient. This can be assessed by observing the patient in a situation where he does not think he is being assessed, or through speech practice.

As a guide, most treatments last between 2 and 6 months. We recommend that practitioners advertise a six-month wear to maximize patient compliance.

The Froggymouth is worn between the lips and is therefore compatible with all orthodontic appliances , with the exception of those which do not allow the elevation of the lingual dome, such as the expander or the quad'Helix, for example.

Clinical studies have shown that it is not useful to wear the Froggymouth for more than 15 minutes per session.

Generally, wearing more than 15 minutes daily should be interpreted as a sign that the treatment is progressing well, as secondary swallowing is integrated into the patient's body schema .

Be careful, however, that patients understand that having worn it twice as long one day does not exempt them from wearing it the next day. The Froggymouth must be worn DAILY .

It is not useful to wear the Froggymouth at night.

In fact, scientific studies have shown that at night, the brain replays the sequences of the day to encode daytime learning.
In other words: at night, the patient does not learn, but he records what he has learned during the day.

The Froggymouth should be washed with water and toothpaste after each use, then put back in its box once dry.

The vertical separation of the lips causes a change in proprioception that will force the patient to spontaneously find a new method for swallowing.

This discomfort during the first few uses is necessary for treatment and should in no case constitute a reason to stop wearing Froggymouth.

The cases of contraindication to wearing Froggymouth are the cases of contraindication to functional rehabilitation.

This involves maintaining sucking habits (pacifier, bottle, etc.), as well as any anatomical environment that does not allow the complete completion of the secondary swallowing sequence.

For example, a palate that is too narrow for the tongue to adopt a high physiological posture, or a major occlusal imbalance (crossbite, overbite) that does not allow stabilization of the mandible by occlusion.

Reviews of the scientific literature estimate that one in two children (from the age of four), and one in three adults are dysfunctional.

In our patient base, this figure is logically much higher. A literature review published in 2023 in the journal “ l'Orthodontie Française ” highlighted that 85% of orthodontic patients presented with lingual dyspraxia.
