- Ask the patient to swallow twice and check for lip contractions, relaxation of chin and cheek muscles, and the mandibular-pelvic angle to detect tongue posture.
- Observe the patient's breathing to determine if it is nasal, oral, or mixed, using a mirror under the nose or Gudin's test if needed.
- Finally, assess if the patient has a dysfunction.
