Step 3: Towards Automation
Exercise 3: Automate Through Articulation

"Teach the tongue to stay in its own area and not cross the dental arch, and you will have accomplished most of the work." — Patrick Fellus

This exercise can begin at the start of Step 3, with variations over time.

1
Counting Exercise:

Have the patient count from 1 to 20, 1 to 60, or recite the alphabet, depending on age.

Watch the demonstration
2
Steps:
  • Start with counting while keeping the teeth in occlusion.
  • Increase the pace to encourage natural tongue posture.
  • Ask the patient to gently clench their teeth between each number.
  • Speed up the counting.
3
Daily Practice:

Encourage daily practice at home. Missing a day is less critical than skipping the Froggymouth.

These exercises support treatment, especially for those struggling with automation after four months.
